SACRAMENTS OF Holy Communion AND Reconciliation
Preparing for First Holy Communion and Reconciliation
Preparing to receive a sacrament is important. When we are properly disposed, the gifts which God offers become truly effective. Without adequate preparation a sacrament can be seen simply as a right of passage or a ‘one off’ event rather than a deep and meaningful reality in our lives.
We expect all children who wish to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time, as well as their parents, to enter a period of preparation. This takes the form of a series of meetings in which we explore the significance of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) in the life of the Church and what it means for us to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus at Mass.
The meetings are led by the Parish Priest and a team of catechists and usually take place on a Saturday morning with additional meetings for the children on a weekday evening.
Details of the preparation process including dates of meetings are published in the Parish News, the weekly parish newsletter. Please check for details of this year’s preparation.
